homemade vanilla extract

OK, so here is a basic recipe. If you want a larger amount, just multiply.
3 vanilla beans
1 cup vodka
glass jar with tight fitting lid

I’ve seen a few methods for this. One using a jar tall enough for the beans to stand in the jar, ¬†another, cutting the beans into little pieces and yet another cutting the beans lengthwise. Some don’t state how to prep the beans at all.

Sterilize jar/bottle
I cut my beans into two to three inch pieces
combine vanilla beans and vodka in jar
label with date + contents
store in cool, dark place for at least one month, shaking periodically

OK, here’s our finished batch… I put some in a bottle with a squeeze dropper for easy use.

Is the macaroons & cupcake blog yours or is the picture? I’m not sure what you’re linking to.

I love the picture of the blueberry macaroons though!

I’ve made this, but I don’t think I used as many beans as you suggest. My extract wasn’t strong enough – maybe it’s time to try another batch with your specifications!
